Online Printing Services

Now you can decide the online printing website better than offline printing company based on your requirement but because of the holidays are approaching and we want to try online printing services. We have sorted out 5 top online printing services for photos print from the internet and check with them.

So, the holidays are right around the corner, and if you plan to send out cards or make prints as gifts you’re probably in the midst of figuring out where to get your photos printed. There seem to be more options than ever when it comes to online printing services, which makes choosing one a bit overwhelming.

So to figure out what service you should use, we tested out five popular online printing companies and assessed them based on their ease of service, price, turnaround time and most importantly, print consistency/paper quality.

Top 5 online Print services:

  • Amazon Photos
  • Shutterfly
  • Printique
  • MPix
  • Snapfish

We placed an order for three 8×10 and three 4×6 prints on the same day (October 23rd) from SnapfishAmazonShutterflyMPix, and Printique (formerly known as AdoramaPix). We used the automatic ‘smart crop’ feature on each website when preparing the prints and, when it was possible, requested that the image be printed on Lustre paper. All prints were shipped with the economy shipping option.

Although all of the print services are fairly easy to use, the winners are pretty clear. Based on our print orders we would gladly recommend ordering from Printique or MPix. These companies had the most consistent color results, the best paper quality and were the truest to the digital files that we had uploaded through the sites. They aren’t the cheapest options on the list, but they are also not the most expensive – at $16.72 (Printique) and $13.96 (MPix), they both fell in the mid-range level in terms of pricing. MPix did offer a nice 25% discount on our order and it arrived a few days before the order from Printiques. But we preferred Printique’s overall photo/paper quality.

So, it’s up to you which print service you are going to use, we have just made our observations.

Online Printing Services: Amazon Photos

online printing service amazon photos

Amazon Photos is the cheapest print service on the list. Prints arrived on time, but the print quality was inconsistent and thin packaging led to damaged prints.

About

Amazon’s printing service is tied to its Amazon Photos storage service. Sign in to your Amazon account (or sign up for one) to access the files that are stored in your cloud and select the ‘Order Prints’ option from the menu. From there it is a matter of selecting a print size and paper quality.

Ease of Service

The service is very easy to use. If you already have an Amazon account, you will be able to order prints from the company by going to the Amazon Photo dropdown menu. You select the size and paper type that you want to be printed, upload photos and then Amazon will show you a cropped preview of the portion of the image that will be printed. You have the option of changing the crop before you order. From there it’s a matter of adding the prints to your cart, confirming your address and paying. Projects will be saved inside of Amazon so you can easily order more in the future.

Price

Amazon Photos charges $2.99 per 8×10 inch print and 0.29 cents for each 4×6 print. Prime members get free shipping (I am one), so the total, after-tax, came out to $10.74 for six prints.

Turnaround Time

Amazon Photos estimated the prints would arrive sometime between October 28 – October 30. They arrived on October 29.

Quality

The prints from Amazon Photos arrived in a very thin cardboard envelope – thin enough that it didn’t do much to protect the images inside. When I opened the package I was disappointed to see that the edges of two of the 8x10s had been damaged in transit. The paper quality is very thin and the colors between the 8×10 and 4×6 images are inconsistent. The smaller prints have a blue tint to them and appear to have been de-saturated before they were printed.

Shutterfly

shutterfly online prints

Shutterfly was the most expensive set of prints that we ordered, but surprisingly they weren’t the best quality of the bunch. Although the colors were consistent and they arrived early, we didn’t love the metallic paper that they arrived on.

About

Shutterfly has been making prints since 1999 and in that time has grown as a company to include businesses like Tiny Prints, Lifetouch and Borrow Lenses. They are well-known for the quality of their photo books and we were eager to see how their prints look.

Ease of Service

Shutterfly is easy to use. You create an account, select the product you want to create, select your sizes and your paper quality. The paper stocks on Shutterfly are limited to Glossy, Matte and Pearl. If you need prints quick there is an option to pick up Glossy versions at Target, Walgreens or CVS (though it’s not clear they’re the same quality as those shipped through the site), but since we were including turn-around time in the mail we opted to have our prints shipped.

Like the other services, Shutterfly saves your images in their system. Unlike the other services, when you log back in it shows you what those images might look like printed on a coffee mug, an ornament, coasters or even a pillow. A ‘smart editor’ suggests crops if the image size is larger than the print size, and like the other programs you can override these auto crops, but that option is somewhat difficult to find in Shutterfly.

Price

Prints cost $4.49 per 8×10 inch and 0.65 cents per 4×6 print. Add in $6.97 for shipping and tax and the total is $24.38, making Shutterfly the priciest service of the bunch.

Turnaround Time

Shutterfly estimated that prints would arrive by October 30. They arrived two days early on October 28.

Quality

Since Lustre wasn’t an option, I opted for Pearl prints. The paper has a nice thickness to it, but I was surprised by how metallic the final products were. The prints also picked up fingerprints quite easily. The colors between the large and small prints were consistent though. My prints came with an offer of free unlimited 4×6 and 4×4 prints in the future, if they are ordered through the Shutterfly app (for a limited time).

Printique

Printique

Printique offers mid-range pricing, consistent print quality and an earlier arrival date than expected. We were happy with our Printique order.

About

The printing service formerly known as AdoramaPix was the service I was most familiar with. I’ve used the company to make prints for art shows and have generally been pleased with the results. They’ve been at it for over twenty years and are located in New York City.

Ease of Service

Printique is an online printing services company, Once you’ve created a Printique account you select ‘Print Wizard’ from the dropdown menu. This will allow you to upload photos and begin your order. You have the option to use ‘Express Order Mode’ or ‘Detailed Order Mode’. We opted for ‘Detailed’ because we wanted to order the prints in two sizes. From here you select your sizes, your paper type (we opted for Lustre), choose whether you want a border around the image and how many copies you want printing.

A function called ‘smart crop’ then analyzes your photos to make sure that the images will fit on the paper sizes that you’ve selected. The program will make a suggested crop for you if an image’s dimensions don’t quite fit the paper size. You can override this in the program, but in this particular instance, we chose to go with what Printique was suggesting. From there it’s a matter of adding the items to your cart and supplying your payment information. Projects will be saved inside of Printique so you can easily order more in the future.

Price

Prints cost $2.49 for 8×10 inch and 0.31 cents for 4×6 inch. I ordered three prints at each size, plus $6.95 for shipping, resulting in a total of $16.72 with tax.

Turnaround time

Printique estimated the prints would arrive between November 1 and November 6. They hit my mailbox a day early on October 31.

Quality

Printique’s prints arrived in a slightly oversized cardboard box and the print quality was what I have come to expect from this service over the years. The colors were consistent between the two sizes and the paper quality was very nice.

MPix

MPix

Mpix’s pricing is in the middle of the road, the print quality was consistent – second only to Printique – and prints arrived ahead of schedule. However, we weren’t fans of having to pay extra for the Lustre coating.

About

MPix is based in Pittsburg, Kansas and has been around since 2003. However, this company happens to be affiliated with Miller’s Professional Imaging – which has been in operation since 1939.

Ease of Service

MPix is easy to use online printing services provider. You create an account, select the product you want to make, upload your photos, select your sizes and paper quality. A ‘smart editor’ will suggest crops if your image is larger than the print size you’ve selected. It’s easy to override the suggestions using the crop and edit tool that appears under the image.

Paper options are a little different here. Users can select from E-Surface, Metallic or True Black and White. There is a second option to add a Lustre coating or a Fine Linen Texture to the print. The Lustre coating costs 0.88 cents more on 8×10 inch prints and 0.49 cents more for 4×6 prints.

Price

MPix charges $2.79 per 8×10 inch print (plus 0.88 cents for Lustre coating) and 0.29 cents per 4×6 print (plus 0.49 cents for Lustre coating), but we were lucky with a 25 percent promotional discount on the order that knocked off $3.34. After $3.95 for shipping and tax, we ended up at a total of $13.96 for six prints.

Turnaround Time

Mpix estimated that prints would arrive 10 business days after they were ordered, which would have been November 6. They arrived much earlier, and were at my door by October 28.

Quality

The colors were consistent between print sizes and the paper quality was very nice. MPix offered the quality that I would expect from a professional level printing service.

Online Printing Services by Snapfish

online printing services by snapfish

Snapfish is the second cheapest option on the list but print quality isn’t great. We didn’t love the faded blacks and the inconsistent tones between the 8×10 and 4×6 images. The 100 free 4×6 prints might be a good deal for some users, but we’d rather pay for prints with more consistent quality. The prints did arrive on time, though.

About

Snapfish is San Francisco based online printing services company and the best for new users, they offer a limited-time deal of 100 free 4×6 inch prints. They also seem to be running a different kind of flash deal special on a variety of their products every day. Since signing up and ordering these test prints I’ve received an email daily from the company.

Ease of Service

Snapfish is very easy to use. Once you’ve created a Snapfish account, you choose the product that you would like your images printed on, select sizes, paper quality and then upload your images. With Snapfish, as with Shutterfly, you have the option to pick your prints up from CVS, Walgreens or Walmart (again, it’s not clear they’re the same quality as those shipped through the site), but since we were using the shipping time to compare these various services we opted to get the prints mailed to us. The paper options at Snapfish are limited to Glossy and Matte. And the Snapfish smart editor will actually recommend print sizes for you based on the image that you have uploaded.

Price

Snapfish charges $2.99 per 8×10 inch print, and 0.09 cents per 4×6 print (but new users get 100 free 4×6 prints) plus $1.99 for shipping. Add in tax and the total was $11.94 for six prints.

Turnaround Time

Snapfish estimated prints would arrive on November 2, which is exactly when they arrived.

Quality

Because Snapfish didn’t offer a Lustre option, we opted for a Glossy print. The paper quality is very thin and the colors between the 8×10 and 4×6 images were inconsistent. This was most noticeable in the blacks of the images. The smaller prints had faded blacks and looked desaturated when compared to the 8×10 prints. you can also refer HP LaserJet Pro Printer Driver To Update your PC driver.

Conclusion: So, you have now a detailed report of the top 5 online printing services, the online printing services cheap printing charges are good as per their price and features they offered. You may order any of them as per your requirement, budget and quantity even the urgency that you have for your prints.

Cheers!
